Share of Spot & Short-Term LNG trade reduced in 2017

The share of spot and short-term imports in total LNG imports slightly reduced in 2017 at around 27% in compare to 28% in 2016.
Spot and short-term imports (volumes delivered under contracts with duration of 4 years or less) increased by 2.1 MMT and amounted to 77.6 MMT in 2017, according to GIIGNL report. However, the share of spot and short-term imports in total LNG imports slightly reduced in 2017 at around 27% in compare to 28% in 2016.
20% of total delivered LNG volume in 2017 was on a Spot base, defined as LNG deliveries which occurred less than three months from the transaction date, representing about 59 MMT GIIGNL said, adding that Asia received about 60% of spot LNG (35.4 MMT), followed by Europe (9.0 MMT), the Americas (8.6 MMT) and the Middle East (5.5 MMT).
China and South Korea showed the largest appetite for spot and short-term imports, recording increases of 3.0 MMT and 4.1 MMT respectively.
