LNG industry is facing strong prices after record lows through the Covid-19 pandemic and LNG developers have recently expressed optimism as seeing growing interest among buyers in signing long-term LNG supply deals which would push sanctioning of new LNG export projects in 2021 and 2022, Global LNG Info’s Analytics Service said in a report today.
However, there is no consensus on how long the current encouraging conditions will remain and for longer term, how resilient is LNG demand via the energy transition.
In 2020, only a single LNG export project, Sempra-operated Energia Costa Azul in Mexico taken positive final investment decision (FID). So far, two LNG export projects (Qatar’s North Field East (NFE) - phase1 for 32 MMT/Y and Russia’s Baltic (Ust-Luga) for 13 MMT/Y) taken positive FID this year and Annova LNG cancelled its project while three projects would likely taken FID by the end of the year.
According to the Global LNG Database, the following projects will likely taken FID in 2021-2022 in accordance with their operators’ plans and Global LNG Info’s Analytics Service’s assessments:
* Venture Global’s Plaquemines LNG export project as its operator has recently received the US FERC’s permission to start early site work on the project and it is in final stage for deliver its first project, Calcasieu Pass which would ship its first LNG shipment in late 2021;
* Woodside’s Pluto-T2 (Scarborough) LNG project which its operator has recently sold the project’s 49% to EIG and expected to take FID on the project by the middle of December 2021;
* Pacific Oil and Gas’ Woodfibre LNG project as it has already sold 70% of its LNG production capacity to BP;
* Tellurian’s Driftwood LNG project;
* Cheniere Energy’s Corpus Christi-Stage 3 LNG project;
* Freeport Liquefaction LLC’s Freeport fourth train LNG project;
* Sempra Energy-led Cameron LNG Holdings’ Cameron fourth train LNG project;
* BP-operated Tortue Ahmeyim (phase 2) LNG project;
