India’s first FSRU arrives at Jaigarh terminal
2021/04/12
H-Energy announced that India’s first Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) has arrived at H-Energy-owned Jaigarh terminal.
H-Energy announced that India’s first Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) has arrived at H-Energy-owned Jaigarh terminal as the Hoegh Giant FSRU which sailed from Keppel Shipyard, Singapore was berthed at Jaigarh terminal in Maharashtra today.
Arrival of the FSRU “marks a new chapter in India’s mission for accelerated growth of LNG infrastructure. FSRU based LNG Terminals aim at providing the ability to enhance the pace of natural gas import capability in an environment friendly and efficient manner.”
With the berthing of the Hoegh Giant FSRU, the LNG regasification terminal will be ready to start testing and commissioning activities soon, H-Energy said, adding that the 2017-built FSRU has storage capacity of 170,000-CM and installed regasification capacity of 750 MMCM/D (about 6 MMT/Y of LNG). “H-Energy has chartered the FSRU for a 10 year period.”
Hoegh Giant will deliver regasified LNG to the 56-Km long Jaigarh-Dabhol natural gas pipeline, connecting the LNG terminal to the national gas grid. “The facility will also deliver LNG through truck loading facilities for onshore distribution, the facility is also capable to reload LNG onto small-scale LNG vessels for bunkering services.” H-Energy also intends to develop small-scale LNG market in the region, using the FSRU for storage and reloading LNG onto smaller vessels.

Some recent developments quoted from the Global LNG Database®:

On 2 Feb. 2021, Hoegh LNG and H-Energy announced that they have completed and signed all documentation for the 10-year charter of the Hoegh Giant FSRU. The agreement is for a period of 10 years with annual termination options after year five.
Hoegh Giant is currently completing its LNGC charter with Naturgy, and will then proceed directly to Keppel Shipyard for minor modifications, in addition to pre-completion of the vessel’s five-year periodic class survey, originally scheduled for 2022 as this will improve efficiency and reduce costs, Hoegh said, adding that the vessel is expected to be off hire for approximately 40 days in the first quarter of 2021 before the start-up under the H-Energy contract in March 2021.
On 25 Jan. 2021, GLNGI informed that H-Energy’s Jaigarh FSRU commissioning has been delayed to 2021-Q2, subject to identification and signing of gas supply agreements with end consumers.
On 19 Nov. 2020, Hoegh LNG announced that it has entered into a binding commitment to supply H-Energy with an FSRU in Jaigarh from as early as first quarter 2021. The final agreement will be for 10 years with annual termination options after year five. Hoegh LNG will allocate one of its available FSRUs currently trading in the LNG carrier market for the project.
Initially, the 145,000-CM Hoegh-owned-operated, GDF Suez Cape Ann FSRU was selected to utilize for this project for at least 5-year. The vessel arrived at the site in April 2018, for the project inauguration. However, the project has faced a number of delays being first pushed back to the end of 2018, and subsequently to the end of 2020.
