Venture Global ordered to disclose technical documents for customers
2024/06/11
The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has ordered Venture Global LNG to present perfect documents about the mechanical problems and startup of the Calcasieu Pass LNG plant to its long-term customers.
The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has ordered Venture Global LNG to present perfect documents about the mechanical problems and startup of the Calcasieu Pass LNG plant to its long-term customers including BP, Shell, Edison, Repsol, Galp Energia and others.

FERC would appoint an administrative judge to arrange details of the distribution of the commissioning documents which cover ongoing repairs to a heat recovery steam generator as the commission wants Venture Global and customers to negotiate terms of the protective order e.g. confidentiality agreement.

The major European energy companies had asked the FERC to force Venture Global LNG to release documents to determine why commercial operations is not announced yet after 2-year and also asked to reject Venture Global LNG's request for a one-year construction permit extension to its Calcasieu Pass LNG plant.

The US LNG producer is in deep disputes with its main LNG buyers since nearly 2-year ago over its “deliberately” delaying commercial operations date (COD) of the Calcasieu Pass project which the European buyers believe have "detrimental consequences" for energy security in Europe at a “critical time”.

Venture Global has repeatedly rejected the buyers’ claims saying its plant is not fully operational due to faulty power equipment that is being repaired as it is entitled to sell "commissioning" cargoes for its own accounts under the contracts.

The 11.25 MMT/Y Calcasieu Pass exported its first LNG cargo to France in March 2022 and remains in the commissioning mode so far as Venture Global has been selling all cargoes in the spot markets, according to the Global LNG Database®.

Venture Global has to market a huge volume of uncommitted LNG to be produced by its under-development export projects as it anticipates to increase its LNG production to 70 MMT/Y by the end of this decade. However, since one year ago when the operator signed its latest LNG sales deal with a German new comer buyer, it has not yet announced any new sales agreement.
