The first train of the Golden Pass LNG project is technically complete and is expected to ship its first cargo by the first quarter of next year, as commissioning of the project’s feed gas pipeline compressor stations is almost complete.

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) recently granted Golden Pass permission to inject hazardous liquids into the project’s thermal oxidizers.

According to the Global LNG Database®, the 18.1 MMT/Y Golden Pass LNG was scheduled to start up in 2024-2025, but has faced significant delays, largely due to the bankruptcy of its original main engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, the Zachary Group, in May 2024.

Chiyoda (leader) and McDermott are currently the main contractors for Golden Pass LNG, after a US Federal Bankruptcy Court ruled in July 2024, allowing the remaining contractors to continue construction work.

In November 2024, the contractors agreed to amend the EPC contract and associated commercial terms for the completion of the full scope of the project’s first train.

Meanwhile, Chiyoda has said that negotiations for finalizing Trains 2 and 3 contract revisions are ongoing as “basic agreement with Golden Pass for Trains 2/3 contract was reached in June 2025 under the new JV structure.”
