TotalEnergies has confirmed that it expects to “continue its growth in 2026” with two major LNG projects scheduled to come online in Q3 2026: Qatar’s North Field East (NFE) expansion and the Costa Azul LNG project on Mexico’s Pacific coast.
TotalEnergies has confirmed that it expects to “continue its growth in 2026” with two major LNG projects scheduled to come online in Q3 2026: Qatar’s North Field East (NFE) expansion and the Costa Azul LNG project on Mexico’s Pacific coast.
According to the Global LNG Database® (1):
* North Field East (NFE) will add 32 MMT/Y of new LNG capacity to QatarEnergy’s Ras Laffan liquefaction complex. The EPC contract for the onshore facilities was awarded to Chiyoda and Technip Energies (CTJV), while McDermott International is executing the upstream EPC scope.
** Energia Costa Azul LNG, operated by Sempra, is now over 95% complete, with pre-commissioning activities underway. The 3.25 MMT/Y facility is expected to export its first commissioning cargoes in Q3 2026.
TotalEnergies noted that this new supply, combined with its expected LNG sales of more than 44 MMT in 2026, should help offset anticipated pressure from lower LNG prices.
However, the company also emphasized that 2026 remains a transitional year, with limited new global LNG capacity additions and continued risk of project delays.
Looking ahead, TotalEnergies expects rising LNG demand in price-sensitive Asian markets, driven by coal-to-gas and fuel-to-gas switching, industrial growth, and expanding LNG bunkering. The company also highlighted continued strength in European LNG demand, supported by the EU’s 2027 ban on Russian pipeline gas.
