The 145,000-CM “Methane Lydon Volney” LNG ship has arrived at Greek Revithoussa LNG terminal as she was slated to start operations as a floating storage unit (FSU) this month.
The 16-year old LNG ship, built at Samsung Heavy Industries’ Geoje Shipyard in South Korea, will increase the terminal’s storage capacity to 370,000-CM as according to the
Global LNG Database®, the 5.1 MMT/Y Revithoussa LNG imports and regasification facility has currently 3 storage tanks with total capacity of 225,000-CM.
The terminal’s operator Desfa had said that more storage capacity will help Greece to meet its domestic gas consumption and also demand from neighboring countries like Bulgaria.
The 3 BCM/Y Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector pipeline (IGB) which has been recently commissioned, could facilitate regasified LNG export from the Revithoussa terminal to Bulgaria that has no LNG imports facility and it has to import LNG via terminals in Greece and/or Turkey.
