Indonesian Tangguh LNG expansion (third train) project to commence commercial operations this month after several delays and about one year after initiating of commissioning works as the Covid-19 pandemic had affected the project’s construction activities.

According to the Global LNG Database®, Tangguh LNG plant’s partners are BP (operator) 40.22%, MI Berau B.V. (16.30%), CNOOC (13.90%), Nippon Oil Exploration (12.23%), KG Berau Petroleum (8.56%), KG Wiriagar Petroleum (1.44%) and Indonesia Natural Gas Resources Muturi (7.35%).

Tangguh LNG (T3) project’s engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract has been awarded to CSTS (Chiyoda, Saipem, Tripatra, SAE) JO.
The new 3.8 MMT/Y train will increase the plant’s gas liquefaction installed capacity to 11.4 MMT/Y. In addition, a new second jetty for the plant which was built via the expansion project, has been recently commissioned.

Last year, Indonesian government has granted a 20-year extension of the Tangguh production sharing contract (Tangguh PSC) to the project’s partners. Under the granted contract, the Tangguh PSC which was due to expire in 2035, will be extended to 2055.
The PSC area which consists of the Berau, Muturi and Wiriagar gas basins, provides feedgas for the Tangguh LNG plant.
