Arctic LNG 2 project first cargo is now expected in March

Russian Arctic LNG 2 project would ship its maiden LNG cargo no earlier than March. Last month, Russian Deputy PM Alexander Novak had said that the first shipment would happen in February; however Reuters cited Kommersant’s report saying that the Novatek-operated project needs to receive an arctic-specialised ship from South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean to be enable for starting LNG export.

The ship is still in Korea and would take at least a month to reach the project’s site in the Gydan peninsula on the Siberian coast, Kommersant said, reminding that Novatek has a fleet of similar ships working for its Yamal LNG, but its tight loading schedule ruled out diverting any ship.

Novatek has dramatically reduced the Arctic LNG 2 project’s natural gas production as it postponed the first LNG cargo shipment.

Meanwhile, TotalEnergies' CEO Patrick Pouyanne has said that the second train of the Arctic LNG 2 project is likely to be installed but the third train has been put on hold as the project has faced challenges from US sanctions and subsequent force majeures by shareholders.
Novatek expects to commission the third train in 2026.
