INPEX has participated in 16 exploration blocks in the vicinity of the Australian Ichthys LNG export project in Darwin as so far multiple gas reservoirs have been discovered including Crown, Lasseter, Mimia and Burnside
INPEX has participated in 16 exploration blocks in the vicinity of the Australia’s Ichthys LNG export project in Darwin as so far “multiple gas reservoirs have been discovered including Crown, Lasseter, Mimia and Burnside.”
Ichthys LNG plant’s partners accelerate participation in exploration of new gas resources in the vicinity of the Ichthys with a view to expand the plant and “ensure a sustained LNG production volume” over the long term.

According to the Global LNG Database®, Ichthys LNG export project’s partners are INPEX (operator) 66.245%, TotalEnergies 26%, CPC 2.625%, Tokyo Gas 1.575%, Osaka Gas 1.2%, Kansai Electric 1.2%, JERA 0.735% and Toho Gas 0.42%.

Last year, TotalEnergies (26%) and INPEX (74%) acquired Cash-Maple fields from PTTEP to secure long-term gas supply for Ichthys. Development of these gas fields “will help us to meet the long-term demand of our customers in the Asia Pacific region for LNG.”
The permit covers an area of 418 sq.km in the Timor Sea, approximately 250 km northeast of the Ichthys offshore facilities.

The Japanese operator has also secured extra land in Darwin for possible additional LNG processing trains in the Ichthys LNG plant.

In addition, the facility’s debottlenecking works to increase the facility’s capacity by 4.5% (from 8.9 MMT/Y to 9.3 MMT/Y) are under way. The works include improvement on the equipment that constrains facility capacity, upgrading cooling systems at onshore LNG facilities, countermeasures for the vibration of equipment and continue further improvement of the utilization rate of the facilities.
