Sempra Infrastructure has announced first LNG production at ECA LNG Phase 1 (Ensenada, Mexico) - a major commissioning milestone.
But here’s what the market is really watching:
🔹 Where things stand now:
Feed gas began flowing in April. The plant is moving through LNG rundown, tank cooldown, and jetty preparation - the final steps before the first cargo can load.
🔹 Why it matters for Pacific markets:
A summer startup would add a new 3.25 MMT/Y Pacific-side supply point, cutting voyage time to Asia and reducing Panama Canal dependency.
That could unlock fresh arbitrage opportunities, influence Asian summer demand balances, and reshape West Coast-Asia freight patterns. Long-term off-take with TotalEnergies and Mitsui is already in place.
🔹 The calendar:
Substantial completion is targeted for this summer, with commercial sales soon after. A regulatory deadline of 21 September 2026 also applies - but markets move on signals, not deadlines.
If ECA LNG starts up this summer, it could become one of the most important new LNG supply points of 2026 - and a real driver of change in Pacific LNG flows.
